Kora Stories – The Snake and the Excavator

With support from the Malmö Cultural Administration from 2022-2023, we are proud to present the project Kora Stories – The Snake and the Excavator, a unique and interactive family performance featuring Andreas Åkesson and Mao Zybamba. This project takes the audience on a journey through West African music and storytelling, with the traditional instrument Kora, a 21-string harp-like lute, playing a central role. The Snake and the Excavator is a family show designed for both children and adults. In this interactive performance, children and their parents are encouraged to sing, dance, and actively participate in the live storytelling experience. Music, movement, and narrative come together to create a magical and educational experience for all ages. We are thrilled to have received support from the Malmö Cultural Administration to bring this project to life. We have had the privilege of performing at several libraries and cultural venues in Malmö, including various libraries in Malmö, Allaktivitetshusen in Malmö, as well as Bara and Svedala library. We look forward to continuing to spread joy and culture with Kora Stories – The Snake and the Excavator, creating unforgettable moments of music, dance, and community.

The Bird That Searched for Its Voice - A Dance Performance

A visual story about a bird searching for its voice. The search is portrayed through an intimate encounter between the music of the West African string instrument, the kora, and the movements of two dancers. The kutiro drum also sometimes urges the bird along its journey. A story full of impulses, improvisations, encounters, and mimicking. As part of the performance, the audience is invited to participate in singing, dancing, and playfully suggesting movements that can help the bird find its voice. Only with their help can the bird discover its voice. A search for expression that is different every time. Purpose: To develop children’s and young people's ability to interpret, fantasize, and collaborate in artistic expression, while also training their coordination and movement skills.
